Formally established in 1996 upon the initiative and support of the Beijing Alumni Association of Soochow University, DONGYOU LAW FIRM is one of the early partnership law firms approved by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Justice. Through 30 years of exploration and continuous development, DONGYOU has evolved into a cross-regional comprehensive law firm with multi-specialty practices covering domestic and overseas markets.

DONGYOU LAW FIRM adopts Soochow University’s motto, “Cultivate the Integrity of Heaven and Earth; Emulate the Perfect Men of All Ages” (official English: Unto A Full-grown Man) as its firm maxim. The ethos of academic pursuit and moral education is brought into legal service practice. Over 30 years of cultivation, DONGYOU has forged its distinctive spiritual core and deeply rooted cultural system.
“Cultivate the Integrity of Heaven and Earth” originates from Mencius · Gongsun Chou. When answering Gongsun Chou’s inquiry, Mencius stated, “I am adept at nurturing my noble spirit.” He further defined noble spirit: “This spirit is supremely great and supremely unyielding. If cultivated with rectitude and unharmed, it fills all space between heaven and earth. This spirit must be accompanied by righteousness and the Dao; without them, it withers away. It is born from accumulated righteousness, not seized by isolated acts of righteousness. If one’s conduct stirs unease within the heart, this spirit will fade.” Later, Wen Tianxiang of the Song Dynasty composed Song of Integrity, with verses “Heaven and earth possess noble integrity, which assumes manifold forms in all beings” and “This noble spirit is the upright essence permeating heaven and earth,” expanding its connotation.
The ancient adage “No gold is pure; no man is perfect” derives from Dai Fugu’s Ode. The original verse reads: “Gold bears no flawless hue, white jade holds faint blemish. I seek no perfection in others, and shall dwell in your household till old age.” Later generations condensed this poem into the common saying “No gold is pure; no man is perfect,” meaning no person on earth can attain absolute perfection, just as no gold exists with complete purity. Therefore, “Emulate the Perfect Men of All Ages” embodies an idealist pursuit of impeccable personal moral character.
The firm maxim “Cultivate the Integrity of Heaven and Earth; Emulate the Perfect Men of All Ages” requires all DONGYOU practitioners to nurture unyielding noble integrity of heaven and earth and model themselves on virtuous sages of all ages as their lifelong aspiration. Noble morality begets noble character; noble character fosters a noble life.
Translated to daily legal practice, the firm must build itself upon integrity, uphold the spirit of democracy and the rule of law, and safeguard fairness and justice. To practice law, one must first strive to be a “perfect man”, abiding by the professional ethics of honesty, credibility, diligence and due care for lawyers.

In September 2018, DONGYOU LAW FIRM was honored as “Excellent Law Firm of Chaoyang District, Beijing (2015–2018)”.
In June 2018, DONGYOU LAW FIRM was conferred the honor of “Advanced Party Organization in Beijing’s Lawyer Profession (2017–2018)”.
From 2013 to 2018, DONGYOU LAW FIRM was repeatedly recognized annually as the Advanced Party Branch of Chaoyang District Lawyer Profession. In 2024, DONGYOU Joint Party Branch was again named an Advanced Grassroots Party Organization.
China Lawyer magazine, supervised by the Ministry of Justice and sponsored by the All China Lawyers Association, is the official journal of the national bar association and the only national-level publication targeting the legal profession. In 2018, marking the 30th anniversary of its launch, DONGYOU LAW FIRM received the “Special Contribution Award”.
In 2008, DONGYOU LAW FIRM was named “Contributor to China’s Reform” at the China Reform and Development Summit Forum.
On 26 May 2006, the Forum for National People’s Congress Deputies and Outstanding Entrepreneurs convened at the Great Hall of the People. At this forum, in the inaugural selection of “China’s Most Socially Responsible Enterprises” hosted by People’s Representative Newspaper, National Academy of Administration and China Economic Publishing House, DONGYOU LAW FIRM was awarded the title of “Inaugural Most Socially Responsible Law Firm”, the sole legal representative among the ten award-winning entities.
Development History
Founded in 1996Initiated and supported by the Beijing Alumni Association of Soochow University, DONGYOU LAW FIRM was established in Xicheng District, Beijing.
Relocated to Jianwai SOHO within the core zone of Beijing’s Central Business District (CBD). The firm fully upgraded its brand VI system and ushered in a new chapter of comprehensive market-oriented operation.
New-generation partners stepped into the firm’s management, further advancing specialization of legal services, standardization of legal service products, marketized operation of the law firm, and team-based lawyer management.
In 2014, DONGYOU became one of the first law firms admitted into the Beijing Government Procurement Legal Service Supplier Database. Between 2014 and 2019, DONGYOU was repeatedly awarded the title of advanced Party organization at municipal and district levels and Excellent Law Firm of Chaoyang District.
In 2021, DONGYOU established its first branch in Changsha, Hunan Province, a pivotal city in Central China, launching DONGYOU’s nationwide integrated layout. Starting in 2022, DONGYOU successively opened branches in Qingdao, Shenzhen, Hohhot and Hangzhou.
Since 2024, Dongyou has successively launched new branch offices in Huaihua International Land Port, Hangzhou, Nanning and Guangzhou to expand its international reach. Meanwhile, its offices in Beijing, Shenzhen, Changsha and other locations continue to upgrade both domestic and cross-border legal services.
